The publication journey at Cambridge

When you publish a journal article with Cambridge, this will typically involve passing through each of the changes outlined below, although some journals may have variations on this process.
1. Manuscript preparation

Find your chosen journal’s homepage on Cambridge Core. Review the journal’s policies and author instructions under the ‘Information’ section and prepare your manuscript accordingly.

2. Manuscript submission

Click ‘Submit your article’ on your chosen journal’s homepage and complete the submission form in the journal’s Online Peer Review System (OPRS) or follow any alternative submission instructions.

3. Manuscript peer review

Your manuscript will go through Editorial and Peer Review. For details on the Peer Review process used by your chosen journal, review the peer review pages under the ‘Information’ section of the journal’s homepage. The manuscript will be accepted, rejected, or returned to you for further revision and review. You will receive an email informing you of any decision.

4. Author Information Form

Upon acceptance, follow email instructions from Cambridge to complete your Author Information Form. Here you will be able to confirm author details and view publication options, including any options for publishing Gold Open Access (OA). For journals using digital contracting, you will also be required to complete additional steps relating to your publishing agreement.

5. Publishing Agreement

For journals using digital contracting, the publishing agreement will be sent to the signer(s) to review and sign. For journals not using digital contracting, you will be directed to download a PDF publishing agreement and return following the instructions provided on the form.

6. Transaction process (if applicable)

RightsLink® work on Cambridge’s behalf to process any applicable OA publication, page fee, and/or print colour charges. In some cases, you will receive an email from RightsLink asking you to complete a transaction. For most cases where OA fees are covered by an institutional agreement with Cambridge, no action will be required.

7. Article production

Your article will move through the production process: Copyediting > Typesetting > Author proof > Final typesetting. Author proof stage gives you a final opportunity to review your manuscript for accuracy and highlight any minor corrections required.

8. Article publication

You will be notified when your article is published online via an email from Cambridge.
