We introduce an explicit family of representations of the double affine Hecke algebra $\mathbb {H}$ acting on spaces of quasi-polynomials, defined in terms of truncated Demazure-Lusztig type operators. We show that these quasi-polynomial representations provide concrete realisations of a natural family of cyclic Y-parabolically induced $\mathbb {H}$-representations. We recover Cherednik’s well-known polynomial representation as a special case.
The quasi-polynomial representation gives rise to a family of commuting operators acting on spaces of quasi-polynomials. These generalize the Cherednik operators, which are fundamental in the study of Macdonald polynomials. We provide a detailed study of their joint eigenfunctions, which may be regarded as quasi-polynomial, multi-parametric generalisations of nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials. We also introduce generalizations of symmetric Macdonald polynomials, which are invariant under a multi-parametric generalization of the standard Weyl group action.
We connect our results to the representation theory of metaplectic covers of reductive groups over non-archimedean local fields. We introduce root system generalizations of the metaplectic polynomials from our previous work by taking a suitable restriction and reparametrization of the quasi-polynomial generalizations of Macdonald polynomials. We show that metaplectic Iwahori-Whittaker functions can be recovered by taking the Whittaker limit of these metaplectic polynomials.
Inspired by Nakamura’s work [36] on $\epsilon $-isomorphisms for $(\varphi ,\Gamma )$-modules over (relative) Robba rings with respect to the cyclotomic theory, we formulate an analogous conjecture for L-analytic Lubin-Tate $(\varphi _L,\Gamma _L)$-modules over (relative) Robba rings for any finite extension L of $\mathbb {Q}_p.$ In contrast to Kato’s and Nakamura’s setting, our conjecture involves L-analytic cohomology instead of continuous cohomology within the generalized Herr complex. Similarly, we restrict to the identity components of $D_{cris}$ and $D_{dR},$ respectively. For rank one modules of the above type or slightly more generally for trianguline ones, we construct $\epsilon $-isomorphisms for their Lubin-Tate deformations satisfying the desired interpolation property.
Let $K={\mathbb {Q}}(\sqrt {-7})$ and $\mathcal {O}$ the ring of integers in $K$. The prime $2$ splits in $K$, say $2{\mathcal {O}}={\mathfrak {p}}\cdot {\mathfrak {p}}^*$. Let $A$ be an elliptic curve defined over $K$ with complex multiplication by $\mathcal {O}$. Assume that $A$ has good ordinary reduction at both $\mathfrak {p}$ and ${\mathfrak {p}}^*$. Write $K_\infty$ for the field generated by the $2^\infty$–division points of $A$ over $K$ and let ${\mathcal {G}}={\mathrm {Gal}}(K_\infty /K)$. In this paper, by adopting a congruence formula of Yager and De Shalit, we construct the two-variable $2$-adic $L$-function on $\mathcal {G}$. Then by generalizing De Shalit’s local structure theorem to the two-variable setting, we prove a two-variable elliptic analogue of Iwasawa’s theorem on cyclotomic fields. As an application, we prove that every branch of the two-variable measure has Iwasawa $\mu$ invariant zero.
Let ${ F}/{ F}_0$ be a quadratic extension of non-Archimedean locally compact fields of residual characteristic $p\neq 2$ with Galois automorphism $\sigma $, and let R be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $\ell \notin \{0,p\}$. We reduce the classification of $\operatorname {GL}_n({ F}_0)$-distinguished cuspidal R-representations of $\operatorname {GL}_n({ F})$ to the level $0$ setting. Moreover, under a parity condition, we give necessary conditions for a $\sigma $-self-dual cuspidal R-representation to be distinguished. Finally, we classify the distinguished cuspidal ${\overline {\mathbb {F}}_{\ell }}$-representations of $\operatorname {GL}_n({ F})$ having a distinguished cuspidal lift to ${\overline {\mathbb {Q}}_\ell }$.
We study deformation theory of mod p Galois representations of p-adic fields with values in generalised tori, such as L-groups of (possibly non-split) tori. We show that the corresponding deformation rings are formally smooth over a group algebra of a finite abelian p-group. We compute their dimension and the set of irreducible components.
Let $p \geq 5$ be a prime number, and let $G = {\mathrm {SL}}_2(\mathbb {Q}_p)$. Let $\Xi = {\mathrm {Spec}}(Z)$ denote the spectrum of the centre Z of the pro-p Iwahori–Hecke algebra of G with coefficients in a field k of characteristic p. Let $\mathcal {R} \subset \Xi \times \Xi $ denote the support of the pro-p Iwahori ${\mathrm {Ext}}$-algebra of G, viewed as a $(Z,Z)$-bimodule. We show that the locally ringed space $\Xi /\mathcal {R}$ is a projective algebraic curve over ${\mathrm {Spec}}(k)$ with two connected components and that each connected component is a chain of projective lines. For each Zariski open subset U of $\Xi /\mathcal {R}$, we construct a stable localising subcategory $\mathcal {L}_U$ of the category of smooth k-linear representations of G.
In this paper we take up the classical sup-norm problem for automorphic forms and view it from a new angle. Given a twist minimal automorphic representation $\pi$ we consider a special small $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Z}_p)$-type V in $\pi$ and prove global sup-norm bounds for an average over an orthonormal basis of V. We achieve a non-trivial saving when the dimension of V grows.
We use the theory of trianguline $(\varphi ,\Gamma )$-modules over pseudorigid spaces to prove a modularity lifting theorem for certain Galois representations which are trianguline at p, including those with characteristic p coefficients. The use of pseudorigid spaces lets us construct integral models of the trianguline varieties of [BHS17], [Che13] after bounding the slope, and we carry out a Taylor–Wiles patching argument for families of overconvergent modular forms. This permits us to construct a patched quaternionic eigenvariety and deduce our modularity results.
We generalize bounds of Liu–Wan–Xiao for slopes in eigencurves for definite unitary groups of rank $2$ to slopes in eigenvarieties for definite unitary groups of any rank. We show that for a definite unitary group of rank $n$, the Newton polygon of the characteristic power series of the $U_p$ Hecke operator has exact growth rate $x^{1+2/{n(n-1)}}$, times a constant proportional to the distance of the weight from the boundary of weight space. The proof goes through the classification of forms associated to principal series representations. We also give a consequence for the geometry of these eigenvarieties over the boundary of weight space.
Let K be a finite extension of the p-adic field ${\mathbb {Q}}_p$ of degree d, let ${{\mathbb {F}}\,\!{}}$ be a finite field of characteristic p and let ${\overline {{D}}}$ be an n-dimensional pseudocharacter in the sense of Chenevier of the absolute Galois group of K over the field ${{\mathbb {F}}\,\!{}}$. For the universal mod p pseudodeformation ring ${\overline {R}{{\phantom {\overline {\overline m}}}}^{\operatorname {univ}}_{{{\overline {{D}}}}}}$ of ${\overline {{D}}}$, we prove the following: The ring $\overline R_{{\overline {{D}}}}^{\mathrm {ps}}$ is equidimensional of dimension $dn^2+1$. Its reduced quotient ${\overline {R}{{\phantom {\overline {\overline m}}}}^{\operatorname {univ}}_{{{\overline {{D}}},{\operatorname {red}}}}}$ contains a dense open subset of regular points x whose associated pseudocharacter ${D}_x$ is absolutely irreducible and nonspecial in a certain technical sense that we shall define. Moreover, we will characterize in most cases when K does not contain a p-th root of unity the singular locus of ${\mathrm {Spec}}\ {\overline {R}{{\phantom {\overline {\overline m}}}}^{\operatorname {univ}}_{{{\overline {{D}}}}}}$. Similar results were proved by Chenevier for the generic fiber of the universal pseudodeformation ring ${R{{\phantom {\overline {m}}}}^{\operatorname {univ}}_{{{\overline {D}}}}}$ of ${\overline {{D}}}$.
We show that framed deformation rings of mod p representations of the absolute Galois group of a p-adic local field are complete intersections of expected dimension. We determine their irreducible components and show that they and their special fibres are normal and complete intersection. As an application, we prove density results of loci with prescribed p-adic Hodge theoretic properties.
We construct an anticyclotomic Euler system for the Rankin–Selberg convolutions of two modular forms, using p-adic families of generalised Gross–Kudla–Schoen diagonal cycles. As applications of this construction, we prove new results on the Bloch–Kato conjecture in analytic ranks zero and one, and a divisibility towards an Iwasawa main conjecture.
For a finite extension F of
${\mathbf Q}_p$
, Drinfeld defined a tower of coverings of (the Drinfeld half-plane). For
$F = {\mathbf Q}_p$
, we describe a decomposition of the p-adic geometric étale cohomology of this tower analogous to Emerton’s decomposition of completed cohomology of the tower of modular curves. A crucial ingredient is a finiteness theorem for the arithmetic étale cohomology modulo p whose proof uses Scholze’s functor, global ingredients, and a computation of nearby cycles which makes it possible to prove that this cohomology has finite presentation. This last result holds for all F; for
$F\neq {\mathbf Q}_p$
, it implies that the representations of
$\mathrm{GL}_2(F)$
obtained from the cohomology of the Drinfeld tower are not admissible contrary to the case
$F = {\mathbf Q}_p$
.
We study horizontal semistable and horizontal de Rham representations of the absolute Galois group of a certain smooth affinoid over a $p$-adic field. In particular, we prove that a horizontal de Rham representation becomes horizontal semistable after a finite extension of the base field. As an application, we show that every de Rham local system on a smooth rigid analytic variety becomes horizontal semistable étale locally around every classical point. We also discuss potentially crystalline loci of de Rham local systems and cohomologically potentially good reduction loci of smooth proper morphisms.
We determine reductions of $2$-dimensional, irreducible, semistable, and non-crystalline representations of $\mathrm {Gal}\left (\overline {\mathbb {Q}}_p/\mathbb {Q}_p\right )$ with Hodge–Tate weights $0 < k-1$ and with $\mathcal L$-invariant whose p-adic norm is sufficiently large, depending on k. Our main result provides the first systematic examples of the reductions for$k \geq p$.
In this work we generalise the main result of [1] to the family of hyperelliptic curves with potentially good reduction over a p-adic field which have genus
$g=({p-1})/{2}$
and the largest possible image of inertia under the
$\ell$
-adic Galois representation associated to its Jacobian. We will prove that this Galois representation factors as the tensor product of an unramified character and an irreducible representation of a finite group, which can be either equal to the inertia image (in which case the representation is easily determined) or a
$C_2$
-extension of it. In this second case, there are two suitable representations and we will describe the Galois action explicitly in order to determine the correct one.
We explain an algorithm to calculate Arthur’s weighted orbital integral in terms of the number of rational points on the fundamental domain of the associated affine Springer fiber. The strategy is to count the number of rational points of the truncated affine Springer fibers in two ways: by the Arthur–Kottwitz reduction and by the Harder–Narasimhan reduction. A comparison of results obtained from these two approaches gives recurrence relations between the number of rational points on the fundamental domains of the affine Springer fibers and Arthur’s weighted orbital integrals. As an example, we calculate Arthur’s weighted orbital integrals for the groups
${\textrm {GL}}_{2}$
and
${\textrm {GL}}_{3}$

We prove some qualitative results about the p-adic Jacquet–Langlands correspondence defined by Scholze, in the
$\operatorname {\mathrm {GL}}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p )$
residually reducible case, using a vanishing theorem proved by Judith Ludwig. In particular, we show that in the cases under consideration, the global p-adic Jacquet–Langlands correspondence can also deal with automorphic forms with principal series representations at p in a nontrivial way, unlike its classical counterpart.
A key ingredient in the Taylor–Wiles proof of Fermat’s last theorem is the classical Ihara lemma, which is used to raise the modularity property between some congruent Galois representations. In their work on Sato and Tate, Clozel, Harris and Taylor proposed a generalisation of the Ihara lemma in higher dimension for some similitude groups. The main aim of this paper is to prove some new instances of this generalised Ihara lemma by considering some particular non-pseudo-Eisenstein maximal ideals of unramified Hecke algebras. As a consequence, we prove a level-raising statement.
We improve upon the local bound in the depth aspect for sup-norms of newforms on $D^\times$, where $D$ is an indefinite quaternion division algebra over ${\mathbb {Q}}$. Our sup-norm bound implies a depth-aspect subconvexity bound for $L(1/2, f \times \theta _\chi )$, where $f$ is a (varying) newform on $D^\times$ of level $p^n$, and $\theta _\chi$ is an (essentially fixed) automorphic form on $\textrm {GL}_2$ obtained as the theta lift of a Hecke character $\chi$ on a quadratic field. For the proof, we augment the amplification method with a novel filtration argument and a recent counting result proved by the second-named author to reduce to showing strong quantitative decay of matrix coefficients of local newvectors along compact subsets, which we establish via $p$-adic stationary phase analysis. Furthermore, we prove a general upper bound in the level aspect for sup-norms of automorphic forms belonging to any family whose associated matrix coefficients have such a decay property.
