The Chermak–Delgado lattice of a finite group G is a self-dual sublattice of the subgroup lattice of G. In this paper, we prove that, for any finite abelian group A, there exists a finite group G such that the Chermak–Delgado lattice of G is a subgroup lattice of A.

Erdős space $\mathfrak {E}$ and complete Erdős space $\mathfrak {E}_{c}$ have been previously shown to have topological characterizations. In this paper, we provide a topological characterization of the topological space $\mathbb {Q}\times \mathfrak {E}_{c}$ , where $\mathbb {Q}$ is the space of rational numbers. As a corollary, we show that the Vietoris hyperspace of finite sets $\mathcal {F}(\mathfrak {E}_{c})$ is homeomorphic to $\mathbb {Q}\times \mathfrak {E}_{c}$ . We also characterize the factors of $\mathbb {Q}\times \mathfrak {E}_{c}$ . An interesting open question that is left open is whether $\sigma \mathfrak {E}_{c}^{\omega }$ , the $\sigma $ -product of countably many copies of $\mathfrak {E}_{c}$ , is homeomorphic to $\mathbb {Q}\times \mathfrak {E}_{c}$ .

Słociński gave sufficient conditions for commuting isometries to have a nice Wold-like decomposition. In this note, we provide analogous results for row isometries satisfying certain commutation relations. Other than known results for doubly commuting row isometries, we provide sufficient conditions for a Wold decomposition based on the Lebesgue decomposition of the row isometries.

We study the double character sum $\sum \limits _{\substack {m\leq X,\\m\mathrm {\ odd}}}\sum \limits _{\substack {n\leq Y,\\n\mathrm {\ odd}}}\left (\frac {m}{n}\right )$ and its smoothly weighted counterpart. An asymptotic formula with power saving error term was obtained by Conrey, Farmer, and Soundararajan by applying the Poisson summation formula. The result is interesting because the main term involves a non-smooth function. In this paper, we apply the inverse Mellin transform twice and study the resulting double integral that involves a double Dirichlet series. This method has two advantages—it leads to a better error term, and the surprising main term naturally arises from three residues of the double Dirichlet series.

We consider free symmetries on cobordisms between knots, which is equivalent to cobordisms between knots in lens spaces. We classify which freely periodic knots bound equivariant surfaces in the 4-ball in terms of corresponding homology classes in lens spaces. We give a numerical condition determining the free periods for which torus knots bound equivariant surfaces in the 4-ball.

This papers classifies toric Fano threefolds with singular locus $\{ \frac {1}{k}(1,1,1) \}$ for $k \in \mathbb {Z}_{\geq 1}$ building on the work of Batyrev (1981, Nauk SSSR Ser. Mat. 45, 704–717) and Watanabe–Watanabe (1982, Tokyo J. Math. 5, 37–48). This is achieved by completing an equivalent problem in the language of Fano polytopes. Furthermore, we identify birational relationships between entries of the classification. For a fixed value $k \geq 4$, there are exactly two such toric Fano threefolds linked by a blowup in a torus-invariant line.

We discuss several ways of packing a hyperbolic surface with circles (of either varying radii or all being congruent) or horocycles, and note down some observations related to their symmetries (or the absence thereof).

Given a weighted shift T of multiplicity two, we study the set $\sqrt {T}$ of all square roots of T. We determine necessary and sufficient conditions on the weight sequence so that this set is non-empty. We show that when such conditions are satisfied, $\sqrt {T}$ contains a certain special class of operators. We also obtain a complete description of all operators in $\sqrt {T}$.

The $c_2$ invariant is an arithmetic graph invariant related to quantum field theory. We give a relation modulo p between the $c_2$ invariant at p and the $c_2$ invariant at $p^s$ by proving a relation modulo p between certain coefficients of powers of products of particularly nice polynomials. The relation at the level of the $c_2$ invariant provides evidence for a conjecture of Schnetz.

We introduce a family of norms on the $n \times n$ complex matrices. These norms arise from a probabilistic framework, and their construction and validation involve probability theory, partition combinatorics, and trace polynomials in noncommuting variables. As a consequence, we obtain a generalization of Hunter’s positivity theorem for the complete homogeneous symmetric polynomials.

We prove several results on unavoidable families of meromorphic functions. For instance, we give new examples of families of cardinality 3 that are unavoidable with respect to the set of meromorphic functions on $\mathbb C$ . We further obtain families consisting of less than three functions that are unavoidable with respect to certain subsets of meromorphic functions. In the other direction, we show that for every meromorphic function f, there exists an entire function that avoids f on $\mathbb C$ .

We prove that torsion codimension $2$ algebraic cycles modulo rational equivalence on supersingular abelian varieties are algebraically equivalent to zero. As a consequence, we prove that homological equivalence coincides with algebraic equivalence for algebraic cycles of codimension $2$ on supersingular abelian varieties over the algebraic closure of finite fields.

We give technical conditions for a quasi-isometry of pairs to preserve a subgroup being hyperbolically embedded. We consider applications to the quasi-isometry and commensurability invariance of acylindrical hyperbolicity of finitely generated groups.

We shall prove a convergence result relative to sequences of Minkowski symmetrals of general compact sets. In particular, we investigate the case when this process is induced by sequences of subspaces whose elements belong to a finite family, following the path marked by Klain in Klain (2012, Advances in Applied Mathematics 48, 340–353), and the generalizations in Bianchi et al. (2019, Convergence of symmetrization processes, preprint) and Bianchi et al. (2012, Indiana University Mathematics Journal 61, 1695–1710). We prove an analogous result for fiber symmetrization of a specific class of compact sets. The idempotency for symmetrizations of this family of sets is investigated, leading to a simple generalization of a result from Klartag (2004, Geometric and Functional Analysis 14, 1322–1338) regarding the approximation of a ball through a finite number of symmetrizations, and generalizing an approximation result in Fradelizi, Làngi and Zvavitch (2020, Volume of the Minkowski sums of star-shaped sets, preprint).

This paper is devoted to determine the geometry of a class of smooth projective rational surfaces whose minimal models are the Hirzebruch ones; concretely, they are obtained as the blowup of a Hirzebruch surface at collinear points. Explicit descriptions of their effective monoids are given, and we present a decomposition for every effective class. Such decomposition is used to confirm the effectiveness of some divisor classes when the Riemann–Roch theorem does not give information about their effectiveness. Furthermore, we study the nef divisor classes on such surfaces. We provide an explicit description for their nef monoids, and, moreover, we present a decomposition for every nef class. On the other hand, we prove that these surfaces satisfy the anticanonical orthogonal property. As a consequence, the surfaces are Harbourne–Hirschowitz and their Cox rings are finitely generated. Finally, we prove that the complete linear system associated with any nef divisor is base-point-free; thus, the semi-ample and nef monoids coincide. The base field is assumed to be algebraically closed of arbitrary characteristic.

The paper investigates the algebraic properties of weakly inverse-closed complex Banach function algebras generated by functions of bounded variation on a finite interval. It is proved that such algebras have Bass stable rank 1 and are projective-free if they do not contain nontrivial idempotents. These properties are derived from a new result on the vanishing of the second Čech cohomology group of the polynomially convex hull of a continuum of a finite linear measure described by the classical H. Alexander theorem.

We formulate a strengthening of the Zariski dense orbit conjecture for birational maps of dynamical degree one. So, given a quasiprojective variety X defined over an algebraically closed field K of characteristic $0$ , endowed with a birational self-map $\phi $ of dynamical degree $1$ , we expect that either there exists a nonconstant rational function $f:X\dashrightarrow \mathbb {P} ^1$ such that $f\circ \phi =f$ , or there exists a proper subvariety $Y\subset X$ with the property that, for any invariant proper subvariety $Z\subset X$ , we have that $Z\subseteq Y$ . We prove our conjecture for automorphisms $\phi $ of dynamical degree $1$ of semiabelian varieties X. Moreover, we prove a related result for regular dominant self-maps $\phi $ of semiabelian varieties X: assuming that $\phi $ does not preserve a nonconstant rational function, we have that the dynamical degree of $\phi $ is larger than $1$ if and only if the union of all $\phi $ -invariant proper subvarieties of X is Zariski dense. We give applications of our results to representation-theoretic questions about twisted homogeneous coordinate rings associated with abelian varieties.

Romyar Sharifi has constructed a map $\varpi _M$ from the first homology of the modular curve $X_1(M)$ to the K-group $K_2(\operatorname {\mathrm {\mathbf {Z}}}[\zeta _M+\zeta _M^{-1}, \frac {1}{M}]) \otimes \operatorname {\mathrm {\mathbf {Z}}}[1/2]$, where $\zeta _M$ is a primitive Mth root of unity. Sharifi conjectured that $\varpi _M$ is annihilated by a certain Eisenstein ideal. Fukaya and Kato proved this conjecture after tensoring with $\operatorname {\mathrm {\mathbf {Z}}}_p$ for a prime $p\geq 5$ dividing M. More recently, Sharifi and Venkatesh proved the conjecture for Hecke operators away from M. In this note, we prove two main results. First, we give a relation between $\varpi _M$ and $\varpi _{M'}$ when $M' \mid M$. Our method relies on the techniques developed by Sharifi and Venkatesh. We then use this result in combination with results of Fukaya and Kato in order to get the Eisenstein property of $\varpi _M$ for Hecke operators of index dividing M.
