Abstract

Southern Europe in the Age of Revolutions de Maurizio Isabella propose une comparaison unique entre la révolution grecque de 1821 et d’autres révolutions en Europe du Sud. L’auteur réfléchit à l’héritage durable de cette révolution, aux complexités des identités religieuses et nationales, et aux luttes qui ont façonné la naissance de l’État grec moderne. Ce livre montre de manière magistrale comment une révolte – réaction à un pouvoir centralisé de plus en plus violent – s’est transformée en révolution, modifiant à la fois l’Empire ottoman et influençant l’histoire européenne.

Maurizio Isabella’s Southern Europe in the Age of Revolutions, offers a unique comparison of the Greek revolution of 1821with other revolutions in Southern Europe. Isabella reflects on the enduring legacy of the revolution, the complexities of religious and national identities, and the struggles that shaped modern Greek statehood. The book masterfully shows how a revolt—the response to an increasingly violent centralized power—turned into a revolution that transformed the Ottoman Empire and influenced European history.
